The Award Selection Methodology

The New Jersey Law Journal’s Best Of program follows a rigorous, multi-step selection process designed to identify the firms and professionals who truly set the standard for the legal profession in New Jersey.

The process begins with senior editorial staff reviewing and curating award categories to ensure each one reflects the most meaningful areas of legal practice — with specific data and performance metrics required from all entrants. From there, the NJ Law Journal’s publisher, ALM, actively works to solicit nominations across diverse backgrounds, firm sizes, jurisdictions, and organization types, partnering with bar associations and legal affinity groups to cast as wide a net as possible.

Judging is conducted by senior members of ALM’s editorial newsroom — journalists and editors with deep, longstanding coverage of the New Jersey legal market. For select categories, an independent panel of outside experts assists in the review, with all judges required to disclose and recuse themselves from any conflicts of interest. Judges review submissions, debate entries, and conduct independent research to verify claims. In some categories, finalists are also interviewed directly.

Out of hundreds of entries submitted each year, only a small number advance to finalist status — and fewer still are named winners. Honorees are recognized at a formal awards ceremony celebrating excellence and leadership across the New Jersey legal community.

Mazie Slater Katz and Freeman was specifically recognized by the Best of New Jersey Law Journal as being a Top Personal Injury Law Firm in 2025.
