$166 Million Jury Verdict Against NJ Child Protection Agency

We won the landmark $166 million verdict for a negligence lawsuit against the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), New Jersey’s child protection agency, for the physical abuse of an infant boy who suffered severe brain damage caused by his father’s savage beating.   The jury found that DYFS should have removed the child from the home because the agency knew the child was in danger.  This is one of the largest personal injury jury verdicts ever in New Jersey history.  The appellate court reversed the judgment, finding that the DYFS defendants were all statutorily immune from lawsuit liability.
